WHEREAS, Pipeline development creates sustainable short-term
and long-term employment opportunities for trade and union
workers; and
WHEREAS, According to data from the North American Industry
Classification System, nationally in 2019 there were 183,700 oil
and gas pipeline and related structures construction jobs and
51,200 pipeline transportation jobs; and
WHEREAS, Pipeline structures are vital to the underlying
economy, especially to the oil and natural gas industries; and
WHEREAS, Employment in the oil and gas pipeline and related
structures construction jobs generated $18.4 billion in labor
income, with value of $20.5 billion added to the United States
economy; and
WHEREAS, In 2019, pipeline transportation jobs reflected
$43.3 billion in labor income, with value of $50.5 billion added
to the United States economy; and
WHEREAS, Promoting pipeline expansion with Pennsylvania's
rigorous safety standards helps mitigate risks of transporting
energy through other methods that may have higher incident
rates; and
WHEREAS, Enabling the safe movement of energy through
pipelines promotes the health and well-being of our citizens and
environment; and
WHEREAS, Unleashing and expanding pipeline production
reflects greater security, safety and independence of domestic
American energy; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the
Commonwealth of Pennsylvania urge the President of the United
