the TRA, together with the Six Assurances stipulated by
President Ronald Reagan in 1982, serves as the cornerstone of
United States-Taiwan relations, preserving peace and stability
in the Taiwan Strait; and
WHEREAS, Taiwan has become a resilient, peaceful and
prosperous democracy, as it was ranked as the second-freest
country in Asia by Freedom House in 2022 and shares common
values such as freedom, peace and democracy with the United
States; and
WHEREAS, Taiwan plays a key role in global supply chains for
critical industries, and it was ranked seventh in the IMD World
Competitiveness rankings and was the United States' eighth
largest trade partner in 2022; and
WHEREAS, Pennsylvania and Taiwan have developed an enduring
and mutually beneficial partnership that facilitates economic,
scientific, educational, cultural and people-to-people
exchanges; and
WHEREAS, Pennsylvania imported $1.53 billion in goods from
Taiwan and exported $545 million to Taiwan in 2022 and reopened
its trade and investment office in Taiwan in 2022, further
enhancing the robust economic relationship between the two
sides; and
WHEREAS, Both at home and abroad, the "National Day of the
Republic of China (Taiwan)" is recognized as a celebration of
its achievements in building a better society and strengthening
its freedom, democracy, global competitiveness and economic
stability, while continuing to preserve cross-strait peace and
stability; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize October
10, 2023, as "National Day of the Republic of China (Taiwan)" in
