A RESOLUTION
Directing the Joint State Government Commission to conduct a
study on the availability, type and demand for supportive
housing.
WHEREAS, Supportive housing is a cost-effective combination
of affordable housing with services that helps provide
individuals with stability and a path toward recovery; and
WHEREAS, Supportive housing can benefit vulnerable
individuals and families struggling with very low incomes,
chronic health conditions, issues with substance abuse, mental
illness, homelessness or at risk of homelessness; and
WHEREAS, In 2021, 12.1% of Pennsylvania's population lived
below the poverty line; and
WHEREAS, There were 447,000 adults in Pennsylvania with a
serious mental illness in 2021; and
WHEREAS, As of 2022, an estimated 13,375 individuals are
experiencing homelessness in Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, In 2020, there were 5,168 overdose deaths in
