A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the month of April 2024 as "National School Library
Month" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, "National School Library Month" is the American
Association of School Librarians' celebration of school
librarians and school libraries; and
WHEREAS, School libraries provide access to a wide array of
resources and a place where learners are encouraged to explore
questions of personal and academic relevance; and
WHEREAS, School libraries promote literacy skills and
independent learning while fostering a love of reading that is
necessary for lifelong learning; and
WHEREAS, School libraries provide communication tools and
resources to provide and learn from constructive feedback to
create a stronger foundation for future economic success and
stability; and
WHEREAS, School libraries provide materials to meet
individual needs and varied interests, abilities, socioeconomic

backgrounds and maturity levels of the students served; and
WHEREAS, School libraries serve as positive environments for
all students to access and engage with a well-managed library
that provides for free expression and access to ideas; and
WHEREAS, School libraries provide resources and activities
for learning that represent a diversity of experiences, opinions
and social and cultural perspectives to support the concept that
intellectual freedom and access to information are effective for
responsible citizenship; and
WHEREAS, The full potential of school libraries is dependent
upon well-trained professional school librarians whose varied
skills assist other educators, learners and families using a
variety of information resources in diverse formats; and
WHEREAS, The school librarian's role is to provide the
leadership and expertise necessary to ensure that the school
library is an integral part of the instructional program of the
school; and
WHEREAS, It is important to recognize school libraries and
qualified school librarians for the vital role they play in
creating an inclusive and relevant academic environment
throughout this Commonwealth; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
month of April 2024 as "National School Library Month" in
Pennsylvania.
