A RESOLUTION
Designating August 19, 2024, as "York County Day" in
Pennsylvania and recognizing the 275th birthday of York
County.
WHEREAS, Located in south central Pennsylvania, York County
played a significant role in early American history at a time
when our young nation was struggling with the domineering
British monarchy; and
WHEREAS, This tumultuous time resulted in colonial resistance
and the American Revolution; and
WHEREAS, Patriots of the American Revolution organized the
Continental Congress government; and
WHEREAS, Delegates representing the 13 American colonies
served in the Continental Congress; and
WHEREAS, The delegates of the Continental Congress met to
debate the rights of those living in the American colonies; and
WHEREAS, The Continental Congress met in the national capital
of Philadelphia until the city was under British occupation; and
WHEREAS, The Continental Congress was then forced to meet in

alternate locations; and
WHEREAS, During this time, York County was a gracious host to
the Continental Congress; and
WHEREAS, York County is not only a place of historic
significance but also is a county with a vital and diversified
economy; and
WHEREAS, This healthy economy includes a mixture of both
strong manufacturing roots and agriculture production; and
WHEREAS, York County's varied manufacturing sectors varies
from paper production to motorcycles; and
WHEREAS, York County's agriculture sector can be found
throughout the county's landscape providing an abundance of raw
materials needed for the production of goods and services; and
WHEREAS, York County is proud to be home to more than 550,000
residents and is made up of 72 municipalities, including 35
townships, 36 boroughs and 1 city; and
WHEREAS, York County has a diverse community with a rich
history and a vibrant economy; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate August
19, 2024, as "York County Day" in Pennsylvania and recognize the
275th birthday of York County.
