A RESOLUTION
Designating November 15, 2024, as "Articles of the Confederation
Day" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, For much of the 18th century many of the colonies
appreciated the wealth and protection afforded to them by the
British monarchy; and
WHEREAS, As the British monarchy tried to assert greater
control over the colonies, turbulent times emerged, resulting in
significant colonial defiance; and
WHEREAS, This resistance gave birth to the American
Revolutionary period; and
WHEREAS, Patriots of the American Revolution organized the
Continental Congress; and
WHEREAS, The delegates representing the colonies met between
1774 and 1781 to debate the colonial rights and designed an
assembly to unify the American colonies; and
WHEREAS, The Continental Congress penned the Declaration of
Independence on July 4, 1776, and the Articles of Confederation
on November 15, 1777; and

WHEREAS, These proclamations of sovereignty and independence
provided the colonies with temporary governance until the
adoption of the United States Constitution in 1787; therefore be
it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate
November 15, 2024, as "Articles of Confederation Day" in
Pennsylvania; and be it further
RESOLVED, That this Commonwealth recognize that the adoption
of the Articles of Confederation provided the American colonies
with our country's early framework of governance and the
platform for self-governance; and be it further
RESOLVED, That on November 15, 2027, this Commonwealth
celebrates the 250th anniversary of the adoption of the Articles
of Confederation.
