A RESOLUTION
Directing the Legislative Budget and Finance Committee to
conduct a financial analysis of the Office of Attorney
General, district attorney offices and public defenders in
comparison to private law practices and corporate defense
firms.
WHEREAS, The courts in this Commonwealth are funded through a
mixture of Federal money, State tax money and legislative
appropriations; and
WHEREAS, The Office of Attorney General, district attorney
offices and public defenders throughout this Commonwealth are
funded in the same manner; and
WHEREAS, These offices and attorneys have been involved in
numerous public cases arguing against large corporations and
other commercial entities to protect the residents of this
Commonwealth from predatory practices; and
WHEREAS, The legal landscape in this Commonwealth is changing
daily, necessitating proactive planning to protect the legal
interests of this Commonwealth and its residents; therefore be

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives direct the
Legislative Budget and Finance Committee to conduct a financial
analysis of the Office of Attorney General, district attorney
offices and public defenders in comparison to private law
practices and corporate defense firms; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the main focus of the financial analysis be to
assess the adequacy of current funding for the Office of
Attorney General, district attorney offices and public defenders
in this Commonwealth; and be it further
RESOLVED, That all entities involved in the financial
analysis provide records, financial statements and other
documents reflecting the revenue and expenditures subject to the
financial analysis to the Legislative Budget and Finance
Committee as permitted under law; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the Legislative Budget and Finance Committee
issue a report, which contains its findings regarding the
financial analysis and any recommendations to rectify any
inadequacies found during the course of the financial analysis,
to the House of Representatives within 180 days of the adoption
of this resolution.
